Nintendo Wii Review by Ryan Barrett
Nintendo Wii is the top selling system of this generation. Not only it was a major success for nintendo, it elevated the gaming industry itself to a whole new level. It's something new. People had never seen anything like it before it came out. Wii is the top selling system now days, because it is fun for the whole family. Mostly all of the games are appropriate for children. When playing Wii, your actually interacting with the game, which makes it a more enticing experience. I find myself really getting into the games im playing. Wii has a wide selection of games, from old classics like Mario and Zelda, to new wonders like Wii Fit Plus. In Wii Fit Plus, you are able to do anything from yoga, to snowboarding. How Cool! You can even set up routines and count keep track of the amount of calories your burning.
Nintendo took a different approach to gaming than XBOX or Playstation when they designed Wii. They decided that they were going to focus more on the games than the technology. And in my opinion, they made a great move. If you are someone has to have blue ray DVD, eye popping graphics, be able too download videos and music, etc. than Wii is not for you. Unfortunatly it lacks a hard drive. In all honesty, I dont see why you need a game system to do all of that stuff any ways. Thats why you have a computer and a TV. Wii focuses on making the GAME PLAY better and more entertaining, rather than focusing on the advanced technology like PS3 and XBOX360. Sure all that extra stuff is cool but, when I buy a veido game system, I personally care most about the gaming concept, not downloading music and watching movies. I can do that elsewhere.
Another thing about Wii that some people dont like, is that in most of the games you have to do a lot of physical moving. This is part of what maes Wii different and fun but for some, just sitting on the couch pressing buttons is the preferred gaming experience.
Although, Wii does have a selection of games where you play traditional style. An example would be the orgional Mario. You simply hold the Wii controller horizontally and use it as you would a nintendo 64 controller. Wii is motion sensitive and runs off wireless connectivity. You can access weather reports, local breaking news, access Wii's internet channel for opera-based web surfing, and connect with other wii users in the messaging channel.
Upon opening the Wii box after purchasing, you will find the Wii Game Console, remote, nunchuck, system stand, ac adapter, composite video cable, sensor bar, two AA batteries, and Wii Sports. Wii Sports is a game that comes with the console. You can play tennis, golf, boxing, bowling, and baseball. One thing I dont like about Wii is the remote requires batteries. Just a minor issue. The system itself is a bright white color. Set up is very simple. It is light weight and slim. Wii is much smaller than XBOX360 or PS3. It also runs very quiet and cool unlike 360 or PS3.
Wii is revolutionary because of the interactive gameplay. Another words, if your playing Zelda, you will be swinging the Wii remote as you would a sword. Shootings games are arcade style. When you are playing baseball, you swing the remote as you would a bat. This is what makes Wii different than any other system.
So in a nutshell, if you are someone who likes to sit on the couch and just press buttons when playing games, or if you want your game system to be able to download music, watch movies and have the best graphics, than Wii is not for you. If you are someone who has young children and is looking for the most suitable system, or someone who like to interact with their games and play arcade style, than Wii is the system for you. If you are a fan of Mario, Zelda, and all of the other great Nintendo classics, than Wii is for you.
