I am 25 years old and I am a certified nurse's assistant. Growing up my mom always told me how important it was to go to college and make something of myself because she didn't and she wanted better for me. Then she started having mental problems and kicked me out of the house when I was 17. To this day I am not really sure why she did it and she continues to disown me. Although I was crushed to think that my mom did not love me, I managed to still go to school and do well. Even though my mom was not around, a part of me still wanted to rebel against her.

I did not go to college like she wanted me to. I took a C.N.A. class that was offered to me for free at my high school. Since then I have not done anything with myself and as I get older I wish I would have listened to her no matter how bad our relationship was. I now have a 2 year old son and a dead end C.N.A job that pays $8.50 an hour. Everyone tells me I need to go into nursing but I just can’t see myself being happy doing that every day, even though the pay sounds real good right about now. I want to do something that will better allow me to go at my own pace. Also, I want to be able to spend time with my son and really be there for him when he needs me. Right now I have to work a lot just to break even with the bills and my son is really suffering. He is having developmental delays and behavioral issues. Occupational therapists, developmental therapists and speech therapists have to come into our home to work with him. And it breaks my heart because they are doing the things that I should be doing but I don't because when I am not at work, I am so tired. SN:0TG9Y2ESY

I think the Future MT program would be really great for my family, it would allow me to be at home with my son and eventually be a better provider for him. Plus, medical transcription at home would be less physical than a C.N.A, so I would not be as tired every day. In the future I want to have more children and I really think that a career in MT would make me feel confident in that decision. Right now, my mind is set on pursuing a MT education but I am not really in any position to be able to put a lot of money into it. But if I could get just a little help, I know that I would make everyone involved proud. I am confident that I could find a job in the MT field that would make me happy to be a part of it.
