Kart racing is popularly known as go karting. It's a popular, economical motor sport practiced in a few parts of USA and UK. People feel happy to drive small four wheeled vehicles called go karts. A go kart is small in its design, but is powerful. Go karting allows people to attain strength in karting. Karting is practiced in different ways on different tracks. Depending on strength and stamina, people can participate in these races.

There are three go kart race formats. First format is called sprint. Sprint races take place on small, dedicated kart circuits. Here, the word 'circuits' refer to small roads having few left and right turns. Tracks start from 400 meters and end at 1600 meters. Sprint format is the smallest of all formats. This format is only for short duration races. Points are calculated according to the accuracy of the Kart driver. The duration of the race does not exceed 15 minutes. Speed is not an important factor in this race. Successful passing of a racer is of importance in this race. This race mostly takes place indoors. That is why it can also be called as indoor go kart racing. Most of the FIA championships and Karting world championship take place in this format.

Second type of racing is Endurance. In endurance, go kart races take place for small durations of 30 minutes or they continue for longer periods. In this race, reliability, consistency and pit strategy are more important. Speed is of no concern in this race. Most of the people of USA call this race as Enduro. Sprint Enduro finishes in 30 minutes while lay down Enduro finishes in 45 minutes. Roads on which this takes place are not small. They are full size circuits which are in between 1.5 and 4 miles in length. 24 hour leman's race is one popular race that follows the Endurance format.

Third type of race is speedway. This racing takes place on oval tracks or asphalt tracks. These tracks are ¼ or 1/6 mile long. These tracks consist of four left turns and two straight turns. Special Karts are used in this race. These Karts have offset kart chassis, which allows racers to smoothly take left turns on the track.
